Taking Shape: A 3-Day Sculpture Workshop For Teens, Inspired by Nick Cave

  • Celebratory event

Join the MCA Chicago for a 3-day sculpture workshop for teens ages 14 to 19, open to all experience levels including beginners.

About the Event

In Taking Shape, teens will explore themes from the exhibition Nick Cave: Forothermore, an ode to those who, whether due to racism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry, live their lives as the “other”—and a celebration of the way art, music, fashion, and performance can help us envision a more just future.

Teens will have the opportunity to connect with one another, explore Nick Cave’s exhibition in detail, and create their own sculptures rooted in the exploration of identity with guidance from sculptor and MCA Teacher Institute alum Kat Alice Tae. Participants will also collaborate to create a zine showcasing their experience with Cave's work over the course of the workshop, as well as their own explorations of self through sculpture. The zine will be distributed throughout the museum for the duration of Nick Cave: Forothermore.

Teens selected for the workshop will be provided snacks and a transportation stipend if needed. All materials for sculpture creation will be provided by the MCA through the Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange.
