Donna and Howard Stone


Donna and Howard Stone have been mainstay supporters of the MCA since the early 1990s and their donation of more than 90 works to the MCA stand as a testament to their generosity.

As a young couple living in the Northern suburbs, the Stones gave many emerging Chicago artists their first purchases. After relocating to Chicago, they amassed a remarkable collection of significant international artists, one that they have shared with Chicago's cultural institutions. Most notably, in 2002 they gave 76 photographs to the MCA, significantly expanding our holdings of important contemporary photographers. In fact, almost every iteration of our collection exhibitions features works given by the Stones. In the case of Surrealism: The Conjured Life, their giving is represented by three remarkable Francesca Woodman photographs, which they acquired before Woodman had gained acclaim.
