Teens take over the MCA!

The MCA's Teen Creative Agency—25 curious, creative 15–19 year-olds from all over the Chicago—present the fifth annual 21Minus. This annual exposition of teen creativity and passion fills the museum with exciting, eclectic, and unexpected projects that invite visitors to engage with the museum and each other in dynamic ways. 21Minus is curated and produced by TCA. The event is free for people age 21 and under and their families.

  • Join us for an afternoon of art experiences designed and led by Chicagoland youth whose project proposals were selected to be part of 21Minus. This year’s event includes over 30 artists representing 24 neighborhoods—from South Deering to Des Plaines, Archer Heights to Albany Park, Woodlawn to Little Village, and more. These projects include:
  • Pop-up performances of poetry, music, hair-braiding, and performance art by youth from the School of the Art Institute, Young Chicago Authors, and more
  • Live music by All-City Performing Art’s ALT-City New Music Ensemble
  • Interactive experiences exploring the psychology of “sanctuary” by students from Curie High School
  • Projection-mappings of Pilsen and Little Village by youth from Yollocalli
  • Explorations of intersectionality by Youth & Opportunity United
  • Live podcast interviewing by {she crew}
  • An original coloring book by students from Hancock High School
  • Fashion and media workshops from (PRO)jectUS by YouMedia

21Minus comes on the heels of the June 1 launch of the MCA’s initiative to provide free museum admission to all youth 18 years old and under, which both underscore the MCA’s commitment to providing the greatest possible access to the museum for all young people.
