The MCA has commissioned Brooklyn-based Tatsuya McCoy to create a pair of works for its ongoing series of wall projects. McCoy employs symbols and shapes from popular culture in his abstract paintings. His recent paintings about comic-book superheroes are done in heroic scale. McCoy’s Forever (1997), which takes its title from the recent film Batman Forever, presents an altered Batman symbol with bold colors and abstracted forms. In Mikey (1997), the artist transformed the Nike logo into the initials of its star promoter, Michael Jordan. McCoy’s project, which is on view in the M-Cafe, is organized by MCA Assistant Curator Dominic Molon and is generously supported by Donna and Howard Stone.
