Scott Reeder’s first solo museum exhibition features new paintings in his signature idiosyncratic style. These works include his anthropomorphic fruits and plants smoking cigarettes alongside his most recent abstract paintings made with cooked and raw spaghetti. Reeder’s approach complicates the gravitas of his subject—namely the history, styles, and traditions of painting—with saccharine colors and atypical subjects while challenging established tastes and preconceptions of value.

For this exhibition, Reeder also created a large-scale, site-specific wall painting from his abstract spaghetti series for the second-floor lobby wall. An excerpt from his first feature-length film, Moon Dust, a futuristic story of a failing resort located on the moon, is screened at the MCA on January 24, 2012.
