This exhibition features six watercolor, collage, and pencil works on paper in the MCA Collection by the late Chicago-based, self-taught artist Henry Darger, who created a total of approximately 300 chromatically luscious and graphically striking works on paper as part of his magnum opus. In a range of formats—from single sheets of drawing paper to 10-foot-long, scroll-like assemblies of drawing sheets, most used on both sides—Darger illustrated an imaginary war of cataclysmic scope and horrifying depravity far beyond anything imaginable on earth, waged between otherworldly beings in imaginary countries.
The exhibition is organized by MCA Assistant Curator Alison Pearlman.
