UBS 12 x 12: New Artists/New Work: Clare Rojas

Friday, Nov 01–30, 2002

McCormick Tribune Gallery

Clare Rojas, Untitled, 2002. Gouache; 11 x 14 in. (27.9 x 35.6 cm). Courtesy of the artist.

Clare Rojas paints, draws, makes animated films, writes, and performs in a band. Although the color, texture, and size of her paintings are reminiscent of 19th-century Japanese woodblock prints, they comprise a dark fantasy world in which adolescents are confronted with monsters and animals are transformed into surreal characters.

Rojas received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
