Spalding Gray, acclaimed author and monologist, will prove once again that everyday ordinary people are as interesting as (if not more interesting than) celebrities and guests on trashy TV talk shows. For Interviewing the Audience, Spalding opts to talk live with members of his audience. Strolling around the MCA theater lobby before the event, he solicits volunteers from the audience and then interviews them on stage. In the course of the evening, three to five audience members come forward onto the stage, set simply with two armchairs facing one another.

Spalding gets to know each person publicly, as they share personal stories about living, laughing, crying, and other experiences in the world we all share. As he has said, by reversing the dynamic of performer and audience, the “audience members get a chance to tell their story, and I get a chance to be genuinely curious in a public space.”
