Radámes “Juni” Figueroa’s Karaoke El Nuevo Horizonte is a participatory installation that transforms the gallery into a space of karaoke, gathering, and rest. Inspired by Caribbean vernacular architecture, Figueora’s structure features seating, window shades that playfully display T-shirts customized by the artist, and a karaoke station, which visitors are invited to use every Tuesday from 5 to 9 pm (when the museum is free for Illinois residents). During this time, you can pick tracks from a playlist created by Figueroa, featuring some of his favorite songs from reggaetón, reggae, dancehall, salsa, and other Caribbean music genres.
