A person is lying on a wooden plank held up by modern chairs at each end. The room is bright with tall windows casting long shadows on the wooden floor. The sky and a distant cityscape are visible outside.

In Hands and Knees, Gordon Hall upends the function of a familiar object of waiting: the chair. During live performances, reclining bodies are carried through the gallery on gurney-like sculptures that are placed to rest atop pairs of chairs.
