Andrius Kuprevicius – Music and Art of Mikalojus K. Ciurlionis – This year was the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian artist/composer M.K. Ciurlionis, whose introduction of structural principles of music into visual form heralded the development of abstract 20th-century art and non-figurative painting. Both the music and art of this Symbolist innovator were presented in a program of piano works, performed by Andrius Kuprevicius, Chairman of the Piano Department of Cleveland State University. Ira Licht, Curator, presented slides of Ciurlionis’ paintings with commentary.

With the launch of this website, the MCA has created a platform for archiving and publishing images and stories from our 50-plus-year history.
