About
The season launches with the world premiere of a theatrical work that reveals a behind-the-scenes view of the theater—in both its vision and the intense interpersonal dynamics. Still in Play: A Performance of Getting Ready was developed by Jenny Magnus through a year-long residency at the MCA with her Chicago-based ensemble and features live music by Crooked Mouth Band, comprised of ensemble members.
A CD release concert for a collaborative recording by Crooked Mouth Band, Elvis Bride, and Midnight Moxie follows the September 16 performance. The music is part cabaret, part rock n’ roll, and all lyric- and story driven.
Crooked Mouth is composed of Beau O’Reilly and Jenny Magnus (of Maestro Subgum and the Whole), multi-instrumentalist Matt Test and guitarist/ukulele player Troy Martin (of the Elvis Bride), and bass player Vicki Walden (of performance troops Dog and Lucky Pierre). The concert includes special guests Midnight Moxie, the all-girl rock doo wop trio.
The MCA first presented Curious Theatre in 1997.
