About

Greg Ward is a saxophonist and composer who was born in Peoria, Illinois. Currently based in Chicago, Ward has had the opportunity to perform and record with a wide group of artists including Prefuse 73, Lupe Fiasco, Tortoise, William Parker, Andrew D'Angelo, Mike Reed, and Linda Oh. As a bandleader, he has released three recordings and in 2010, his Chicago-based band, Fitted Shards, released South Side Story. In 2011, he released a trio record, Phonic Juggernaut, which featured bassist Joe Sanders and drummer Damion Reid. In 2015, Ward was commissioned by the city of Chicago for a musical response to Charles Mingus’s Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. The recording of this work, Touch My Beloved’s Thought, was released on Greenleaf Music in 2016.

In case of rain, the event takes place inside the MCA's Kovler Atrium.

Our annual summer performance series highlights artists from Chicago's internationally renowned jazz community.
