Joshua Abrams developed his voice in the rich ferment of the 1990s Chicago music world, participating heavily in the city’s jazz, experimental, and rock scenes. He cofounded the "back porch minimalist" band Town & Country and, with Matana Roberts and Chad Taylor, the trio Sticks & Stones. In the past twenty years, Abrams has recorded and toured with a remarkable range of artists, including Fred Anderson, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Hamid Drake, Theaster Gates, Neil Michael Hagerty, Nicole Mitchell, Jeff Parker, Mike Reed, Matana Roberts, and The Roots. As a film composer, Abrams has scored the music for five feature length films including the award-winning films Life Itself, The Interrupters, and The Trials of Muhammad Ali. His most recent album, Magnetoception, was selected by The Wire Magazine as the third best record of 2015 and by Pitchfork as the second best experimental record of 2015.

Abrams is joined by Jeff Parker on guitar and Mike Reed on drums to explore the boundaries of collective sound and improvisation.

Tuesdays on the Terrace

Enjoy an evening of free music on the MCA's Anne and John Kern Terrace Garden with our annual summer performance series highlighting artists from Chicago's internationally renowned jazz community.

Dine on our terrace and enjoy a buffet, which features a changing menu of themed dishes using fresh, locally grown produce from the SOAR Farmers Market. Reserve a table by calling 312-397-3805. The buffet is $27 per person.

For a more impromptu evening, open seating is available on our terrace or bring a blanket to relax on the lawn. Food may be purchased from our outdoor grill along with cold beverages, wine, and seasonal cocktails from the bar in the sculpture garden.

Sorry, outside food and beverages are not allowed.

In case of rain, the event takes place inside the MCA Café.
