Deva Maitland
About
Working primarily in sculpture, Deva Maitland examines formal elements of pedestals and of early modernist sculpture as well as their relationship to one another. Focusing on the rapid recirculation of ideas and styles in culture, she suggests through her work that the past is constantly reemerging and coexists with the present. Maitland’s work reflects a sense of déjà vu, highlighting her generation’s obsessions with retro trends, thrift stores, and its childhood toys.
