About

This focused grouping of works includes paintings, photographs, sculpture, and video that evoke a strong sense of atmosphere. Often incorporating images of light or shapes that allude to the optical sensation of light and color, these hazy and seductive images provide the viewer with a contemplative or even hypnotic environment. The exhibition includes paintings by Judy Ledgerwood and Ed Ruscha, photographs by Uta Barth, Richard Prince, and Hiroshi Sugimoto, and an interactive sound sculpture by Charles Long, all from the MCA's collection. Atmosphere also features Wolfgang Tillmans's first video installation called Lights (Body), 2002, which captures the pulsating ambiance of a dance club.

The exhibition is curated by Associate Curator Staci Boris.
