About

The MCA presents a new installation work created especially for the museum by Katharina Fritsch, one of the most prominent artists to emerge from Germany during the past 20 years. Although she works in a variety of media, Fritsch is best known for her meticulously crafted sculptures that are inspired as much by mass culture items as by high art sources. Fritsch’s evocative and mysterious sculptures have been described as “apparitions” because of their enigmatic presence. Her exhibition consists of thousands of small, identical shafts of wheat composed to form an enormous golden field in the gallery, creating an environment that relates to both landscape and minimalist sculpture.

This exhibition is curated by James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator Elizabeth Smith.
