Martin Creed, winner of the 2001 Turner Prize and one of the UK's leading artists, reevaluates the status of art with a generous dose of wit. As an introduction to his year-long project at the MCA, Martin Creed Plays Chicago, Creed brings his multifaceted practice to a Chicago audience. From his work with humble, readymade materials to his ambitious public sculptures and his rock band, Creed demonstrates how his ideas circulate through the variety of media he engages in his art. Just as his artworks refuse conventionality, so does Creed's artist talk. This is a unique early opportunity to experience the artist as he combines talking, choreography, and music in this unpredictable performance.

About the Artists

Martin Creed was raised in Glasgow, Scotland, and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London where he continues to live and work. Creed's work has been exhibited widely at international venues, and this summer his Work No. 1197: All the bells in a country rung as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes kicked off the Olympic Games in London.

Joining Creed is Amanda McAlister, who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and began her dance training at The School of Nashville Ballet. She received her BA in dance from Columbia College Chicago, has performed in New York and across the world, and performs professionally with The Seldoms Dance Company in Chicago.
