Meet the 2010 Emerge Acquisition winner, Kate Gilmore, a video artist who takes on the gendered legacies of recent art history with performances that employ constructed sets and feats of physical labor. With a sense of irreverence and sharp humor, Gilmore’s works depict the artist dressed in stereotypically feminine clothes accomplishing painful, dangerous, or strenuous tasks—giving us a contemporary image of feminist performance art. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
