This Is What Democracy Looks Like

Dear Congressman Davis, Please think about my little guy’s future … what will his world be like without ART. All images are from our MCA postcard writing workshop, Apr 2017, and courtesy of the writers.

About

Since the White House released the federal budget proposal, which called for a big spending increase on the military, huge cuts domestically, and the total elimination of key arts and humanities programs, museums and citizens have stepped up their advocacy efforts. On select Tuesdays, the MCA is providing postcards, pens, and inspiration to help you tell your elected representatives how the budget cuts could affect you. Featured here are a few of the postcards written (and drawn) by visitors as young as 15 who wanted to share their views publicly. Join us on Art Museum Day, Thursday, May 18, 2017, to write your own postcards to Congress.

PROTECT THE ARTS because we need them to grow.

Dear Speaker Paul Ryan, I am a 15 year old in high school and since 4th grade I have played the cello. Arts of any type should not be threatened by greed because it is important in our culture. People enjoy live performances because it is an entertaining way of exploring art. Please defend the arts and the meaning that they bring.

A budget without the arts is a life without beauty shared and passed on to generations. Thank you.

The arts are important: and supporting them keeps things interesting and well informed. Thanks for keeping the arts as a priority! <3 Cicero artist.
