Gregg Bordowitz: Drive

About

The word drive can be used to describe a journey, a campaign, ambition, or sex. It suggests speed, direction, force, and the exertion of coercive pressure. These meanings also describe the MCA's exhibition of Chicago-based video and filmmaker Gregg Bordowitz's work. The exhibition features a gallery installation, screenings of Bordowitz's award-winning documentary Fast Trip, Long Drop(1993), and the Chicago premier of his recently completed sequel Habit(2001). Together, these videos document the evolution of AIDS activism from the streets of New York City in the early 1990s to the 13th International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa, in 2000. Central to both films is the demand for far wider access to life-saving AIDS drugs and treatments. In addition, Bordowitz will design a citywide poster campaign extending the museum project into the public realm.

Drive is part of a three-year series called Hope=Life: Living in the New Age of AIDS. It is organized by MCA assistant curator Michael Rooks.
