Program Description

In this moody and lush teen noir, the disappearance of a high school student points to dark forces at work in a sleepy Illinois town. Although friends, neighbors, and family search for Carolyn Harper, the case remains unsolved. Unmoored and adrift, the rural community—from the mother of the missing girl to her fellow choir members—tries to soldier on. Surreal, sly, and shocking, Jennifer Reeder’s coming-of-age tale has a fiercely feminist heart.

Director Jennifer Reeder and MCA Assistant Curator Christy LeMaster discuss the film after the screening, followed by a reception on stage with the hosts and artists in the Edlis Neeson Theater.

MCA Screenings feature works of contemporary cinema that expand traditional notions of moviegoing. This screening is organized by Chicago International Film Festival in collaboration with Assistant Curator Christy LeMaster.

Knives and Skin(2019) runs for 1 hour, 51 minutes.
