About

Artist Isa Genzken frequently uses the technique of assemblage—combining multiple images and objects into single sculptures—in her work. In response to the Genzken retrospective on view at the MCA, Chicago-based artist and educator Veronica Bruce leads a hands-on assemblage workshop for all ages.

About the Artist

Veronica Bruce's multifaceted practice examines the possibilities of transforming objects by embedding physicality into the cycle of building. Her paintings depict subtle architectural elements referencing the corner as the foundational symbol of illusionistic linear perspective. Her sculptures reflect the reality of the three dimensional container and its contents, with the continual process of accumulation and emptying out. Bruce received her BFA in 2004 from the University of Illinois in Urbana – Champaign and completed a MFA in painting in 2011 at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She taught high school art from 2005–11 in Illinois. Bruce is currently an instructor in the Contemporary Practices Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
