Break Out!

Celebrating 10 years of supporting new work by Chicago dancemakers

Chicago Dancemakers Forum (CDF) is marking its 10th anniversary with a daylong celebration of dance. Some 30 notable choreographers who have been supported through CDF are performing throughout the afternoon and evening with works for the concert stage and installation-based works set in the museum’s galleries, as well as dance films.

The daytime program is free with museum admission and features a tremendous range of contemporary dance by Victor Alexander, Julia Rae Antonick & Jonathan Meyer (khecari), Rachel Bunting (the humans), Justin Cabrillos, Paige Cunningham Caldarella, Peter Carpenter (Peter Carpenter Performance Project), Asimina Chremos, Margi Cole (The Dance COLEctive), Rachel Damon (Synapse Arts), Emma Draves, Carrie Hanson (The Seldoms), Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey, Atalee Judy (BONEdanse), Ayako Kato (Art Union Humanscape), Ginger Krebs, Nicole LeGette (blushing poppy productions), Meida McNeal (Honey Pot Performance), Shirley Mordine (Mordine & Co Dance Theater), Erica Mott (Erica Mott Productions), Nadia Oussenko, Hema Rajagopalan (Natya Dance Theatre), Adam Rose (Antibody Corporation), Molly Shanahan (Mad Shak), and Sheldon Smith (Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts).

The evening program is followed by a reception, and raises funds toward CDF’s ongoing program of grants to choreographers. The evening program features performances by Jan Bartoszek (Hedwig Dances), Darrell Jones, Kristina Isabelle (Kristina Isabelle Dance), Michelle Kranicke (Zephyr Dance), Nicole LeGette (blushing poppy productions), Erica Mott (Erica Mott Productions), and Julia Rhoads (Lucky Plush Productions).

About the Artist

Launched in 2003 as a catalyst for innovation, Chicago Dancemakers Forum (CDF) funds research and development for ascending Chicago choreographers to explore new directions in dance. As the single largest source of funding and support for new dance development in Chicago, Lab Artist grants support artistic exploration, research, and development leading to the production of new work. CDF Lab Artist grants support choreographers who are active in their field and developing a distinctive trajectory in their work. They possess the skills and experience to undertake a larger project of extended scale and the capacity to benefit from an environment of artistic interchange. The consortium responsible for Chicago Dancemakers Forum (CDF) includes two independent dance artists, MCA Chicago, Links Hall, and the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago.
