JUBA!

About

Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) in association with MCA Stage present JUBA! Masters of Tap and Percussive Dance, three distinct programs featuring a host of extraordinary foot drummers and percussive arts masters. The JUBA! concerts are the culminating events of Rhythm World, the oldest and most comprehensive summer festival of tap and percussive dance in the world. The two-week long festival also features classes, workshops, tap jams, concerts, panel discussions, and development conferences.

Program

  • Beat-niks

Wednesday, August 3, 7:30 pm

A celebration of the emerging “beat-niks” of the tap scene: tap artists in their 20s who combine a deep knowledge of the art form’s roots with blistering technical virtuosity and rhythmically poetic content. These emerging virtuosos will be joined by the venerable living masters who have trained and mentored the younger generations.

  • Canada on Tap

Thursday, August 4, 7:30 pm

In 2011, CHRP is embarking on a 5 year “spotlight” project that will focus on a different city, nation or region each year. The first Spotlight will shine on the growing number of Canadian artists who lead the global field while seeking a separate model: performances by Canadians Heather Cornell, Lisa LaTouche, Kim Chalovich, Tasha Lawson, Everett Smith, Travis Knights, Matt Shields, Danny Nielson, and more.

  • CHICAGO!

Saturday, August 6, 7:30 pm

Chicago is home to one of the largest tap art communities in the world with a distinct focus on ensemble work. Chicago Human Rhythms Project's resident ensemble, BAM! will be joined by MADD Rhythms, Jus' Listen, Cartier Collective, and special guests in the closing night festival performance.
