Museums & you, reframed
Museums are full of frames, literally and figuratively. Frames hang on the wall with the artwork but art and museums also frame attitudes, ideas, and society. In this TEDx talk at the University of Chicago from this past spring, MCA Pritzker Director Madeleine Grynsztejn makes a passionate statement on the role of museums. Given the state of the world, most poignantly reflected in the attack today, she offers up the museum as the best space to challenge societal frames and bring people together.
Museums disrupt societal frames for a living . . . and they do this by showing the work of artists who reframe and question the status quo in unique ways.
