About
Comprised of objects across all media, the MCA Collection is a vital part of the museum’s programs. Since its inception, the Collection has grown each year through gifts and selected purchases. The MCA has been fortunate to receive several gifts over the last few years, many in honor of the museum’s 40th-anniversary celebration. This two-part exhibition serves to highlight recent acquisitions from the past few years, and several of these works are on view for the first time.
The first of this two-part presentation brings together the work of current and former Chicago-based artists who represent an ongoing focus in the MCA Collection and are dynamic participants in the artistic community. The exhibition includes works by Rashid Johnson, Laura Letinsky, Kerry James Marshall, Dan Peterman, Jason Salavon, Joe Scanlan, Melanie Schiff, Tony Tasset, and Scott Wolniak. The works in this exhibition relate to each other under the loose themes of recycling, reuse, and appropriation.
The second part of the exhibition includes a broader scope of major recent acquisitions by internationally recognized artists.
These exhibitions are organized by Julie Rodrigues Widholm, Pamela Alper Associate Curator.
