Harold Mendez

Acknowledging the human suffering and tragedies that are often deeply rooted in historical and politically charged landscapes, Harold Mendez addresses issues of power, property, and visibility in his four-channel sound installation: “So long as we can say this is the worst, this is not the worst.” Adhering packing tape and duct tape directly to the gallery walls, Mendez creates a seemingly impenetrable installation that alludes to various notions of constraint in society.

This project is copresented by the 2008 Artist Residency Program at Experimental Sound Studio, Chicago, funded in part by National Endowment for the Arts.
