Georgina Valverde
About
Incorporating diverse domestic objects, Georgina Valverde creates seductive, minimal structures. Mixing the language of homemade crafts and modernism with a bold palette of ready-made commercial products designed for use in the home, Valverde explores the aesthetics and culture of the domestic sphere. Juxtaposing the coziness of home décor such as crocheting and embroidery with the use of enigmatic imagery or digital media, Valverde’s work questions the notion of the home. By placing these sculptures within the public sphere, Valverde opens up the insular domain of the home as a site for public discourse. For this 12 x 12 show Valverde creates new works to continue her explorations with craft and fiber.
Valverde received her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2002.
