About
Drawn from the MCA Collection and supplemented by key loans, this exhibition presents works by artists at the early and middle stages of their careers who live and work in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and London. Encompassing video, photographs, sculptures, and installations, No Harm in Looking probes the ways in which people derive meaning from images that offer contradictory or conflicting messages. Often hinting at a dark or threatening narrative that implicates the viewer, these works reflect upon several elements of the viewer's response to a work of art: observing, witnessing, scrutinizing, labeling, and interpreting.
The exhibition is curated by Susman Curatorial Fellow Jennifer Zukerman.
