Carla Arocha examines the intersection of art, fashion, and identity by using familiar clothing design patterns such as animal prints in abstract works of art. Hide, which was originally commissioned for an MCA exhibition presented in 1997 and is now part of the MCA Collection, consists of clusters of leopard-print patterns created with mirrored Plexiglas that can be reconfigured upon each installation. Arocha created the new work Rover for the café windows to accompany the installation of Hide. Both are part of a series of work presented in Puck's at the MCA and of the museum's ongoing effort to use works from the Collection as the basis for temporary exhibitions.
This project is curated by MCA Curatorial Assistant Julie Rodrigues.
