Summer Tuesdays come alive on the MCA’s Anne and John Kern Terrace Garden with free music highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned jazz community. Bassist Jeremiah Hunt leads a centenary performance in honor of the great Charles Mingus, performing a blend of the swinging hard bop and deeply felt blues that proves why Mingus is still one of the most beloved musicians of all time.

Whether it's jazz, funk, blues, rock & roll, or any other art form that comes his way, Jeremiah Hunt is becoming a highly sought-after bassist. Currently based in Chicago, he has shared in all of the top rooms including the famous Jazz Showcase, The Green Mill, Andy's Jazz Club, and many underground favorites like The Whistler, The California Clipper, and more. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Jeremiah's love for music started in grade school with playing the trumpet. However, by ninth grade he realized that playing the bass was his true passion.. He went on to study at Florida A&M University (FAMU) and became a proud alumnus of the 2009 Disneyland All-American College Band. As a freelance bassist, he has performed in top performance spaces across the world. In the realm of Jazz, Hunt has worked and performed with Victor Goines, Pharez Whitted, Marquis Hill, Bobby Broom, Gordon Goodwin, Dee Alexander, and Bob Reynolds, to name few. His versatility allows him to perform with alternative groups such as The Main Squeeze, with whom he collaborated in recording the album Mind your Head (2015), produced by the legendary Randy Jackson. Hunt is the lead bassist on Cosmic Transitions, a Chicago collaboration with Isaiah Collier (saxophone), which received a five star rave review in Downbeat Magazine (2021). Subsequently, Hunt opened for the iconic funk group, The Ohio Players, in Skokie, IL. Hunt is exploring many avenues on continuous search for sound—while remaining in pursuit of his own.
