About this event
Join an intimate virtual conversation between Chicago Works artist Omar Velázquez and Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator Carla Acevedo-Yates as they discuss Velázquez's work and the process of putting together his first solo museum exhibition. The artist reflects on his residence in both Ponce, Puerto Rico and Chicago and how his daily walks and drives through the Puerto Rican countryside have inspired his lush, tropical landscapes painted in bright, vibrant colors. The discussion may also include some brief musical interludes as Velázquez plays instruments he hand-carves in the shape of tropical fruits.
Chicago Works: Omar Velázquez is organized by Carla Acevedo-Yates, Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator, with Iris Colburn, Curatorial Assistant. This program is organized with January Parkos Arnall, Curator, and the Performance and Public Practice team.
