Program Description in English
If “imagining a language means imagining a way of life,” and if “a new word is like a fresh seed in the soil of discussion”—as Walter Benjamin suggested—then perhaps we can go beyond the natural flexibility of language and its academic norms and try to transform its limits and formats. This session will serve as a space to imagine alternate syntaxes that may help us confront the various crises (ecological, social, political, economic, technological) that we will encounter in the future, and also the dystopia of our present.

This program is organized by the Lit & Luz Festival in collaboration with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Writing Program and MCA Assistant Curator Gibran Villalobos.

Si “imaginar un lenguaje significa imaginar una forma de vida”, y si “una palabra nueva es como una semilla fresca que se arroja al terreno de la discusión” –tal como sentenció Walter Benjamin–, entonces tal vez podríamos ir más allá de la flexibilidad natural del lenguaje y las normativas académicas e intentar transformar sus límites y formatos. Esta sesión se propone como un espacio para imaginar sintaxis alternas que puedan confrontar desde la escritura las diversas crisis (ecológicas, sociales, políticas, económicas, tecnológicas) que viviremos en el futuro, pero también la distopía que ya es nuestro presente.
