March First Fridays Spring Break!

Justin Cooper, Springthing

Throughout the building, 6–10 pm

Playing various characters, artist Justin Cooper gets the party started and keeps it going with his comedy–performance art project Springthing. Performances take place at mini-installations located throughout the museum. Throughout the evening, Cooper adorns himself in spring break–themed props to become a party monster.

Cheryl Pope and SAIC Advanced Shape and Theory class, Wish You Were Here!

Imagine yourself in warmer climes with summery costumes designed by Chicago artist Cheryl Pope and students from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Pose with a spring break–themed backdrop and send photographs to your winter-bound friends.

Fern Silva film program

Kanter Center, 6–10 pm

Fern Silva’s films investigate the history, influence, and consequences of travel on culture and society. As the artist experiments with various modes of documentary and narrative filmmaking, his work often shifts between ideas surrounding mysticism and the deceptive capabilities of memory.

Alex Rauch, Bicycle Karaoke

Puck’s Café, 6–10 pm

Artist Alex Rauch brings his bicycle karaoke machine to the MCA for this live art experience. Listen as he belts out hits and sign up to sing your favorite song.

The Encyclopedia Show: Spring Break

Second-floor galleries, 8–9 pm

Class isn't out yet! This live variety extravaganza commissions artists and experts from many disciplines to use their individual talents in order to present a verbal and musical encyclopedia. Tonight's participants present spring break–themed writing assignments.

Try your hand at figure drawing with live models dressed for the beach.

Sonorama—a Chicago-based DJ collective fronted by Charly Garcia, Eddy Baca, and Marlowe Baca—was created to promote world roots music through its members’ obsessive love of vinyl music culture. Crisscrossing geographic borders and genres, they showcase an eclectic program of rare grooves, musical curios, and Afro-influenced dance music.

The Revelettes

Second-floor atrium, 9–9:45 pm

Meet the Revelettes, Chicago’s grooviest go-go gals. Their fab moves, ‘dos, and threads have raised spirits and roofs all over the city since 2007. Tonight they turn up the heat and throw a beach party.
