About the Speaker
Corie Sharples is a registered architect who has taught at the Parsons School of Design. Actively involved in community work, she volunteers in the New York City public schools and serves on the local Borough of Manhattan Community Board. She writes and lectures frequently about the firm's work and issues facing the profession.
SHoP Architects, a 60-person practice, was founded by its five principals in 1996\. SHoP is a leader in rethinking architectural practice through the transformation of complex theoretical design into easily understood construction models. Their wide-ranging practice extends into the areas of software design, branding, real estate development, construction, and the codevelopment of new sustainable technologies. Current work includes a major collaboration with the architectural firm Ellerbe Beckett to design the Barclays Center, the new world-class sports and entertainment center that will anchor the planned development and home to the NETS Basketball team in Brooklyn's Atlantic Yards. Other SHoP Projects include the residential condominium 290 Mulberry in New York; a building project for the Fashion Institute of Technology; and a design for the historic South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan.
