Chicago Dancemakers Forum Salon: About Legacy—Bausch, Cunningham, Jackson
About
Join us for this special Salon devoted to a conversation on the legacies and influences of Merce Cunningham, Pina Bausch, and Michael Jackson, exploring the convergence of all of their deaths in the past few months, and the odd yet compelling connections between their influences. The salon features panelists who have unique and informed perspectives to speak about each of the artist’s legacies. By simultaneously examining Cunningham’s post-modern legacy, Jackson’s enormous influence on popular dance, and European innovation by Bausch, the discussion and video presentation gives participants an opportunity to explore and reflect on personal thoughts about legacy and renewal of dance, via a broad variety of voices and genres.

About the Speakers

Paige Cunningham (Cunningham), a former dancer with the Cunningham company and Cunningham technique instructor offers perspective from within the dance studio. How does technique and vocabulary continue, and what is the responsibility for instructors?
Michelle Simmons (Jackson) was a dancer and collaborator on numerous Michael Jackson projects during the 1970s and 1980s, as a featured dancer in several Jackson 5 TV specials, "The Wiz" and music videos including "Thriller."
