About the Event

Summer Tuesdays come alive on the MCA terrace with free concerts highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned music community. Enjoy live music while relaxing on the lawn with your own picnic, or savor snacks and drinks available for purchase. Then head inside to catch the MCA’s summer exhibitions—we’re open late on Tuesdays and free for Illinois residents.

This Tuesday, classic Chicago blues singer Mzz. Reese and her quartet, The Reese’s Pieces, serve up a subtle but sultry mix of blues hits and signature originals. Inspired by the sounds of Denise LaSalle, the Pointer Sisters, and Gwen McCrae, Mzz. Reese brings down the house with her nuanced and straightforward style.

About the Artist

Mzz. Reese was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Chicago with both of her parents. She comes from a singing background; her father was one of the original Canton Spirituals Gospel Group and a member of The Kindley Shepherds—one of Chicago’s top gospel groups. Mzz. Reese really is a chip off the old block as she was a choir director for more than 45 years. Mzz. Reese has been singing since the age of three and the older she gets the better she sounds. She started her journey in the blues in 2010 when she teamed up with guitarist Joe Brinson and the ShotGun band. Since then, she’s done one recording titled Cookies. She has played at plenty of venues including Buddy Guy’s and Rosa’s Lounge, and has performed at the Blues Fest from 2019 to 2021. She is currently working on her second album with the help of Jim Sims. Being a longtime cancer survivor, she is nothing to reckon with. She knows what to do on stage and when she opens her mouth, she is captivating.
