Kerry James Marshall’s High Line Mural

Kerry James Marshall's major solo exhibition Mastry opens at the MCA in 2016, but if you can't wait and happen to be in New York, take advantage of the warm fall weather and see his Above the Line on the High Line, through May 2016. Executed in the style of his Rythm Mastr comics (which inspired the MCA's upcoming exhibition's title), the imagery of the work envisions an Afrofuturist cityscape, where even apartment building water towers (iconic in New York City) have been converted to luxury condos—a hint of irony, given its placement in the rapidly gentrified meatpacking district. Watch a video of the mural being installed above and learn more about the work via High Line Art.
