about the artist

Bassist and vocalist Katie Ernst has performed at jazz festivals throughout the country including the Chicago Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and Hyde Park Jazz Festival. The Chicago Tribune describes her as "a versatile bassist who plays in far-flung bands and sings with uncommon delicacy and authenticity." She composes, performs, and tours with the band Twin Talk, and has received critical acclaim for her "Little Words" project, an original song cycle inspired by the poetry of Dorothy Parker, which premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC in 2014. Her voice and bass were an integral part of MacArthur Fellow

pianist and composer Jason Moran's monumental work Looks of a Lot, which was commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Center in 2015. As an educator, Ernst has led clinics, workshops, and masterclasses at high schools and universities throughout the US for both instrumental and vocal jazz programs.
