Inspired by the short story by Italo Calvino, The Tyrant is the tale of a king who refuses to leave his throne for fear of being overthrown and is, therefore, forced to experience his kingdom entirely through sound. The Chicago premiere of the 2006 chamber opera by major American composer Paul Dresher, The Tyrant is performed by the Grammy-nominated ensemble The Chicago Chamber Musicians, featuring tenor John Duykers.

Running time: 60 minutes, no intermission
