UBS 12 × 12: New Artists/New Work:
Von Kommanivanh

September 6–28, 2008

Kommanivanh's sculptural installations of found objects and graffiti-inspired paintings use humor to address oppressive social and political realities. Incorporating the artist's personal history — he emigrated to America from Laos as a child — as well as daily observations and human interactions, Kommanivanh's works reveal the economic, political, and social barriers that hinder mobility and personal expression.
